The Journey Back

My very first Game Jam game.

The Journey Back is  an action platformer about a dis-embodied spirit searching for his body (spoiler: he never finds it!). See a screenshot below.

About The Journey Back

This is the very first game jam game I developed. This was for the DePaul Game Jam in 2014. I worked with Andrew McIlhany, Maurice Westbrooks, Brian Eschenbrenner, Leo Leandro, and Andrew Byerwalter.

The game jam's theme was "A soul, once lost cannot be returned; is that not the law of mortals?" and we took it fairly literally, deciding to create an action platformer about a soul fighting demons to make its way back to its body.

I was a programmer on the project and I designed the fighting mechanics of the game, as well as helped with some of the platforming. I worked hard to learn the basics required to make such a game in a very short amount of time. This project helped me learn many new tricks in Game Maker that I used to create the mechanics and allow the levels to loop into each other (we planned for an endless game that was randomly generated, but we ended up settling on just endless). This game proves my skill in quickly learning new things and working on a team.
